Our days are spent in a world of opposites. Jesus highlighted opposites, and juxtapositions, throughout His teachings. But what does His Gospel for you and for me? What IS the Gospel? In this teaching series, we will define what we mean when we use the word Gospel at Cornerstone Fellowship. By diving a bit into history and then going deeper every week through the GOOD, and the BAD. Join us as we talk about how to present the Gospel to the world around us in a healthy and impactful way.
What is the Gospel?
When Jesus presented the Gospel, it was shocking and radical. The controversy Jesus created was not that He called His message Good News. Instead, when He unpacked the message, people came to find out it wasn't, on the surface, good news to everyone. In fact, it was NOT good news to some people. But WHY?
This week CF Online was joined by Chris Stockhaus.
This week, his message is what will prompt you to think about the questions listed below. If you have not had a chance to watch it, we highly encourage you to do so, as it will help provide context moving forward.
Whether you find yourself with a group, a friend, a family member, or are by yourself, take some time to read, process, and discuss/journal through the questions below.
- Take some time to read Luke 6:20-26 and Luke 4:42-43. What stands out to you about these passages? If you are familiar with these verses, is there a word, phrase, or concept that read differently to you this time? If you are new to these verses, what surprises, leaves questions, or intrigues you?
- What has your understanding of the word "Gospel" or the phrase "Good News" been? Describe or unpack your past connection to those words.
- Where and how did your faith journey begin? What did that experience look like?
- Chris talked about the 4-point plan of Salvation that is often used for personal salvation:
- God created the world
- Humans sinned against God messing everything up
- Jesus died on the cross to forgive us our sins
- If we believe in and follow Jesus, we will have eternal life in Heaven
- Do you agree or disagree with these points?
- What are the additional missing ingredients from this plan?
- What impact have you seen from those missing ingredients not being incorporated?
- What, in your words, is the Gospel? How would you describe the Gospel to someone else?

A post-Christian culture is one in which the majority of people in that culture were Christian, and now they are no longer. The culture has decided to turn away from Christianity, maybe not completely but enough for it to be categorized as a post-Christian culture." - Chris Stockhaus.
How do we present Good News to people when most have heard about Jesus and are rejecting the version of Jesus they witnessed?
