Am I Reading the Bible the Wrong Way?

15Feb

In this firstmessage from our Basics: Everyday Habits That Shape Our Lives series, pastor Becky Fitch explores how Scripture is meant to form us, not just inform us. Consider these questions:

1. When you think of your earliest memories of the Bible, what emotions come to mind?

2. In your experience, have you tended to use the Bible primarily as a reference book, a devotional guide, or a moral handbook?

3. Why is important to both interpretation and mediate on Scripture?

4. Do you have a favorite reference source? If so, what is it?

5. Have you practiced the four movements of Lectio Divina before?  If yes, how has the practice helped you?

Lectio Divina
We read a short passage slowly.
We reflect on a word or phrase that stands out.
We respond in prayer.
As we rest, sitting quickly with God.
