Sermon Series Resources for Leaders

GETTING STARTED

Read each statement. If the statement reflects something you knew before write a “K.” If the statement reflects something you learned, write a “L.” If the statement reflects something that deepened what you already knew, write a “D.” If the statement reflects something you want to learn more about, write a “W.”

Key:
K = KNEW
L = LEARNED
D = DEEPENED
W = WANT

_____  1. God never made literal belief in Genesis a criterion for being a disciple. (John 3:16)

_____  2. God never asked for nor did he want a temple. (2 Samuel 7:6-7)

_____  3. The portable nature of the tabernacle is significant because it showed the Israelites when God wanted them to move and that He would move with them. (Numbers 9:15-23)

_____  4. God intended the Tabernacle to be temporary. (Haggai 2:6-9 and 1 Kings 9:8)

_____  5. Jesus was not adding on to or extending the Jewish system, instead he was starting something new. (Jeremiah 31:31-34 and Hebrews 8:8-13)

CONVERSATION

1. Pastor Steve presented this list of 6 things he believes are required to insure your place in God’s family throughout eternity.

What must I believe in order to be a Christ-follower
1. Is there a God?
2. Did God come to earth as a sinless man named Jesus?
3. Do I believe what Jesus taught?
4. Does Christ’s death cover my sins? Am I forgiven?
5. Does His resurrection assure my place in heaven?
6. If I repent of my sinful behaviors, can He change me?

Do you agree with this list? What would your list look like?

2. Pastor Steve talked about “Jenga like faith.” Are there parts of your faith that are Jenga like? Consider sharing with your group what you have found difficult about faith in God.

Have you worked through Jenga like faith in the past? Can you share how you have resolved Jenga like faith and have found a solid, less shaky foundation? Are you still in process?
