GROUP DISCUSSION
Opening Prayer: (1-5 minutes)
In light of what God is saying through this weekend’s message, here are a few suggestions of how your group can invite God into your time together.
- Thank God for the leaders in your life who you’ve been able to learn from.
- Pray for the leaders of the East Bay, our schools, churches, and our nation.
- Ask God to reveal the context in your life where your leadership is currently demonstrating care, honesty, empathy and seeing the bigger picture.

Give an example of how you care for those you lead?
Group Discussion: (30 minutes)
This week we will explore more deeply the leadership lessons from Mordecai from Esther 3 and 4.
- What character traits do you most admire about Mordecai?
- Read Esther 3:8-9 and 4:1-3. Reflect on Mordecai’s actions at the King’s gate. Describe a time when have you been willing to step out and speak up for others.
- Mordecai’s reaction came from his knowledge that his people where on the verge of a genocide. He cared deeply and the traits he exhibited were sincerity, empathy, honesty and he could see the big picture. Which of these traits are a strong suit in your leadership? Which trait is a challenge? Why?
- Share a leadership situation where you believed strongly that someone was in a “such a time as this” moment and you encouraged, cared and believed in them. What was the outcome?
- Read Esther 4:12-17. What did Esther instruct Mordecai to do? Think and share a current “such a time as this” societal moment. How can Esther's instruction be applied today?
Closing Prayer: (5-15 minutes)
In light of what God is saying through this week’s message, here are a few suggestions of what your group could talk about with God in prayer.
- Pray for the individuals in your community group or in your circle and for their leadership within the spheres of influence they have.
- Ask God to reveal new or different ways that you can impact your sphere of influence.
