Ever wonder why you feel anxious, stressed, or lonely even when life seems fine? Computer programmers have an old saying: "garbage in, garbage out." The same thing can be true of our minds.
In this message by pastor Adrian Tsingaris from Philippians 4:8-9, we look at Paul's simple list of what to think about: what's true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. We also look at a surprising Greek word, aretē, that shows why this list is about being good for others, not just for yourself.
You'll hear two practical habits for filling your mind with the right things, why Jesus would absolutely let you merge in front of him, and what scuba diving, a motorcycle captain, and a trip to Stockton have to do with finding peace.
Paul says that when we think about these things and put them into practice, "the God of peace will be with you." That sounds like a good deal to me.
Then take it further with the discussion questions:
What have you been feeding your mind lately, and has it brought you peace or anxiety?
Which quality on Paul's list do you wish showed up more in your life?
What's one small step you can take this week?
