What can wealth do TO you?

Posted by Dana Bicker on

Many don’t realize the impact that wealth can have on us. If money were a prescription drug, there’d be a long warning disclaimer with all the side effects. In this message, Pastor Steve Madsen helps us discover why the Bible talks about wealth and riches more than heaven or hell combined and the connection between generosity and contentment.

Opening Questions and Reading
  • Would you define yourself as rich? Why or why not?
  • Would you define yourself as blessed? Why or why not?
  • Read 1 Timothy 6:6-11 and 17-19.
Study Questions

Below is a list of questions designed to help you continue the conversation at a personal, community group, and broader Church level. You are welcome to answer one, answer all, and/or supplement additional questions based on individual needs.

  • In your own words, define wealth.
  • What does scripture say about wealth?
  • How would you describe your relationship with money? Is your relationship with money different as an adult? What about when you were a young adult? Or when you were a child?
  • What does it mean to be content? Do you know someone who fits this description? Why does that person stand out to you?
  • What are barriers to BEING content?
  • Describe a time when you were the most content. What were the factors involved in that state of contentment?
  • How does money affect contentment? Talk about that connection in your own life.
  • When exploring your level of contentment, describe one or two ways that the Holy Spirit may be challenging you.
