Opening Prayer: (1-5 minutes)
In light of what God is saying through this week's message, here's some suggestions of how your group can invite God into your time together.
Pray that our time together would be one of encouragement and authenticity.
Pray that God's truths about our significance would be received with open hearts and minds.
Pray these truths would: transform how we live, fill us with hope, and give us a new perspective of how we view our circumstances, people around us, our gifts and purpose.
Quick Connection: (5 minutes)
Haveeveryone take 30 seconds each to share a phrase or a moment from this weekend's message that is still resonating with them. You also have the option to say "Pass."
Large Group Discussion: (30 minutes)
This weekend's message came from Ephesians 4:1-16. If everyone has a Bible, let's go there together.
Pastor Billy taught us that SIGNIFICANCE is not only something we want more than happiness, it is something were created for. Significance is fuel for our souls. What are some ways, and who are the people, in which you have sought to have significance in your life?
Paul was in prison when he was writing this letter to the Ephesians. How was he able to see and embrace his purpose and significance even in his darkest hour, remain strong in his faith, be able to encourage others, and be filled with hope? How does this impact you?
Significance Component #1: The Gospel. (Eph. 4:4-6) The Gospel tells us we can live a significant life because we are significant to God, and what Jesus has done for us gives us the ability to distinguish LIES from the TRUTH about who we really are.
What are some truths about who you are, according to Jesus?
What are some lies that you have believed about yourself, either in the past, or even currently, that go against everything Jesus has done? How can you fight against continuing to believe the lies?
Significance Component #2: Works of Service. (Eph. 4:11-12; Matthew 20:28) Paul establishes the Biblical pattern of living a significant life: using our gifts to serve others is the natural outflow of what salvation in Christ has created in our lives.
Does understanding salvation change the way you view others and the desire to serve?
(Eph. 2:10) – What are some gifts that you know (or suspect) God may use to engage in serving others? Does knowing He prepared these good works in advance for you specifically help change how you view them?
MY NEXT STEP INTO A LIFE OF SIGNIFICANCE
Every week, there will be 1 or 2 ways that we can take what God is saying to us through this series, and put it into practice.
This week, Pastor Billy Rieder encouraged us to join the newly revised Discovery Classes! These classes are designed to help you take your next step with Jesus. Whether you're new to faith, or have been a Christ-follower for awhile, these classes will help you to discover your unique fit in what God is up to in the world! CLOSING PRAYER (5-15 minutes):
In light of what God is saying through this week's message, here's some suggestions of what your group could talk about with God in prayer.
Pray that in the next five weeks, God would reveal to each person how we might move forward in our spiritual growth and significance.
Pray that God would give us His eyes to see people in our lives, and how we might be able to serve God by serving them.
Pray that we would encourage each other in our value in Christ, in identifying our gifts, and how we might be able to use them.
