GROUP DISCUSSION

Opening Prayer: (1-5 minutes)

In light ofwhat God is saying through this week's message, here's some suggestions of how your Group can invite God into your time together.

God, as we open the book of Isaiah together, open our hearts to what you want to teach us. Give us honesty with ourselves and others as we consider what this book says.Help us to be doers of your Word and not just hearers.

Quick Connection: (5 minutes)

Haveeveryone take 30 seconds each to share a phrase or a moment from this weekend's message that is still resonating with them. You also have the option to say "Pass."

Large Group Discussion: (30 minutes)
This weekend's message came fromIsaiah 1:1-31. If everyone has a Bible, let's go there together.
  • Pastor Steve taught that humanity as we know it is just a cheap imitation of what it was originally created to be. We were created for an intimate relationship with God. Can you think of anything else in our world that doesn't function like it was originally intended to?
  • In Isaiah 1:4 it says that Israel has forsaken God. They turned their backs on God to look for answers elsewhere. What are some examples of false sources of hope and fulfillment? Does anyone feel comfortable sharing about a timein their life when they were trusting in a false source of hope or fulfillment?
  • Isaiah talks about the consequences that Israel is facingbecause of their sin. He calls them to turn from their behavior, but we wonder: will they? When God calls us to make a change in our lives, we hit the "snooze" button, putting it off until later, or never. Why do you think we do this – delaying obedience to God's instructions? If you feel comfortable sharing this, can you think of a recent example of whenGod was callingyou to leave something behind that wasn't in line with his best for you?
  • The Israelites continued to offer worship to God in the midst of their disobedience, but itwas inauthentic. They were treating their relationship with God like a transaction. Has that ever been true of your relationship with God? How so? What has helped to guard or redirect your life so that your friendship with God wasauthentic?
  • Pastor Steve said that restoration requires real repentance. Look at Isaiah 1:16-17 and discuss: what does real repentance look like? Howis God speaking to your life through this prophetic word.

CLOSING PRAYER (5-15 minutes):

In light ofwhat God is saying through this week's message, here's some suggestions of what your Group could talk about with God in prayer.

Lord God, teach us what real repentance looks like and help us liveobediently and authentically as your children. Show us what it would look like to live rightly with you and others. As we walk with you, help us to be a light to those you put in our lives.
